Fighting Misinformation: Setting the Record Straight on We R Blighty
We’ve seen a lot said about us online lately. Some of it is fair criticism we can learn from. Some of it is opinion. And some of it is just plain wrong. When wrong information spreads, it doesn’t just hit us, it hurts the veterans we’re here to help.
We don’t usually respond to every rumour or social media post. But enough people have asked about what they’ve read that it feels right to set the record straight.
Who the “Walter Mitty Hunters Club HQ” are
The group calling itself the “Walter Mitty Hunters Club HQ” is not a recognised press organisation. They’re not bound by any journalistic code or independent regulator. There’s no oversight body checking their claims before they go public.
From what’s public, they run mainly as a social media presence. Their stated aim is to “expose” people they believe have misrepresented military service or acted improperly in the veterans’ community. The problem is, they don’t have the same evidence standards you’d expect from reliable sources. They often post first and ask questions later or not at all.
It’s not just us. They’ve targeted individuals and other veteran-support groups, sometimes leading to reputational damage even when no wrongdoing was found.

The false claims we’ve seen
We’re not going to repeat their exact wording here, spreading it further helps no one. But to give you the shape of it: they’ve implied we’ve operated without proper permissions, mishandled funds, and been dishonest about our work.
All of these suggestions are untrue.
Where this information comes from
From what we’ve seen, much of their content about us is based on:
-
Speculation without direct evidence.
-
Misunderstanding how veteran support work operates day-to-day.
-
Old or out-of-context details presented as current fact.
-
Anonymous tips they haven’t verified.
None of this is the same as factual reporting.
The real facts
Licensing and compliance
When we first started, there were different requirements needed as soon as we were aware of these changes, we changed our operation standard.
Operational transparency
Our work with veterans has been documented from the start. Housing placements, emergency hotel stays, and mental health referrals are all logged. We provide summaries to partners and funders when requested.
Police confirmation
Where claims have been made that could be criminal if true, we’ve spoken directly to the police. They’ve confirmed there are no investigations into We R Blighty for any of the allegations shared online.
Financial integrity
Every penny donated goes into the CIC account. Expenditure is recorded and available for inspection in line with UK company law. Annual accounts are filed with Companies House and open to the public.

How misinformation harms the people we serve
When false stories spread, it’s not just our reputation on the line. Raising
funds slows down. Some potential partners step back. That means fewer hotel rooms paid for, fewer emergency food shops, and less help for veterans in crisis.
We’ve had people approach us worried they might lose support because of something they read online. No one should be put in that position because of unverified claims.
Our commitment to doing things right
We can’t control what’s said about us elsewhere. But here’s what we can promise:
-
We check our information before we publish anything.
-
If someone raises a complaint, we log it and respond promptly.
-
If we make a mistake, we correct it openly.
-
We invite anyone with concerns to speak to us directly or through our official channels.
Openness matters. So does getting the facts right.
The bottom line
We’re here to help veterans. That’s it. We’re not perfect, but we’re honest. We follow the rules. We work with local authorities, housing providers, mental health teams, and other veteran support networks.
Before you share a post or a claim, check where it’s come from and whether there’s evidence behind it. Look at our official pages, talk to us, and make your own mind up.
To everyone who’s stood by us through this — thank you. Your trust means we can keep doing the work that matters.
If you want to support, donate, or just stay informed, use our verified pages and trusted donation channels. That way, you know exactly where your help is going.
